Joanna Umney

Joanna has experience working with children, adolescents, young adults, and adults. Drawing upon an empathic, client-centred approach, Joanna recognises the importance of working collaboratively to achieve a client’s goals. Joanna can assess, diagnose and treat clients who present with a diverse range of conditions.

Joanna will tailor evidence based therapeutic interventions, which may include a Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy (CBT), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), to the individual clients’ needs, personality, and therapeutic goals.

Joanna has a strong interest in working with autistic adolescents. Joanna is also an animal assisted therapist, and her Australian Shepherd (Zailey) helps provide a sense of comfort and calmness during consultations. Joanna finds that animal-therapy is particularly supportive for those with social-anxiety, autism, and depression. Joanna is committed to providing the latest evidence-based treatments through attending regular professional development, some of which include:

Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT) Proficiency Course: Master the Core Components & Skills of ACT Across Diagnoses; Breaking free of Social Anxiety; and Neuroscience Safety Transformative Impact Polyvagal Theory Supporting Children- Autism Spectrum (to name a few), and she will continue to add to this collection.

Joanna is a registered Psychologist with the Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency (AHPRA) and is a provider of Psychological services through Medicare Australia. Joanna is also a member of the Australian Psychological Society (MAPS) and has gained her accreditation to be an animal-assisted therapist.
